Selling to the DOD
Are you a Contractor (Vendor) for the Department of Defense (DOD)? Or are you going to bid on work for the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines? Effective March 31, 1998 you will be required to register your firm in the Central Contractor Registration Data Base PRIOR to receiving a contract award! This data base provides basic business information capabilities, and financial information to the government. Vendors will be paid by electronic funds transfer.
You can register at http://www.acq.osd.mil/ec or call the DOD Electronic Information Center at: 800-334-3414. For questions you can contact the CCR (Central Contract Registration) Registration Assistance Centers at 888-227-2423. There is no charge for registration. Note: I found it easiest by ordering the paper instructions and then registering via the Internet.
Information you will need:
1. DUNS number. You can call Dun and Bradstreet at 800-333-0505 to find out your DUNS number or to request a DUNS number. You can also submit your request at https://eupdate.dnb.com/requestOptions.html.
2. CAGE code. The Commercial And Government Entity (GAGE) code is a five character vendor ID number used by the DOD. You can check to see if you have a CAGE code at https://www.bpn.gov/bincs/begin_search.asp. CAGE numbers are obtained through local PTAC (Procurement Technical Assistance Centers). A listing of local PTACs is at http://www.dla.mil/db/procurem.htm or you can call 703-767-1650 for the number of your local center.
3. Your Banking and EFT Information. This is your bank information including the bank phone number, Fax number, ABA Routing Number, and your account number for electronic funds transfer (wire transfer). Contact you local bank for this information.
4. US Federal TIN. This is your Employer ID Number issued by; the Internal Revenue Service. You can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 to verify your TIN. This is your social security number if you are a sole proprietorship.
5. SIC Codes. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes are codes that identify the type of product or service that your company offers. Two internet sites that will help you with these codes are: The US Census Bureau at http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/sic.html and The OSHA SIC search site at http://www.osha.gov/oshstats/sicser.html.
6. Some SIC Codes that Mobile Power Washers may need are: 1799 Special Trade Contractors, Not Elsewhere Classified (Cleaning building exteriors-contractors, Steam cleaning of building exteriors-contractors, Cleaning new buildings after construction-contractors, Sandblasting of building exteriors-contractors); 7542 Carwashes (Bus washing, Carwashes, Cleaning and polishing (detailing) new autos for dealers, Detailing (cleaning and polishing) new autos for dealers, "Laundries, automotive", Truck washing, "Washing and polishing, automotive", "Waxing and polishing, automotive"); 7349 Building Cleaning and Maintenance Services, Not Elsewhere (Chimney cleaning service, Service station cleaning and degreasing service, Telephone booths, cleaning and maintenance, Window cleaning service); 7699 Repair Shops and Related Services, Not Elsewhere Classified (Boiler cleaning, Catch basin cleaning, Cleaning bricks, Furnace and chimney cleaning, Machinery cleaning, Sewer cleaning and rodding, Tank and boiler cleaning service, Tank truck cleaning service); 4499 Water Transportation Services, Not Elsewhere Classified (Boat cleaning, Ship cleaning, except hold cleaning); 4581 Airports, Flying Fields, and Airport Terminal Services (Aircraft cleaning); 7389 Business Services, Not Elsewhere Classified (Swimming pool cleaning and maintenance).
